Bel Marin Keys Community Services District Levee Repair Project

Description

NOTE: Addendum The previously adopted MND authorized repairs to the easterly most portion of the Bel Marin Keys South Lagoon Levee, adjacent to the South Lagoon. The previous project restored the eroded sections of the levee and installed armor stone to absorb wave action to protect the slope from future erosion. The project also included the construction of an overflow structure and repairs to the levee adjacent to Bel Marin Keys Boulevard. The proposed project includes an emergency overflow structure to maintain the water levels within the lagoon during storm events. The overflow structure shall consist of (3) 6'x4' corrugated steel overflow pipes which shall be powered for a sluice gate to control the operation of the structure. In addiction, the project includes the replacement of the existing tide gate structure that connects the eastern moat (closest to the South Lock) to the Novato Creek. The proposed tide gate structure would replace an aged structure currently in place with a weir to control the flow. The existing pipe will be replaced with a large diameter pipe which will improve the water quality in the moat by continuous flushing, increasing the tidal flow which would in turn reduce sedimentation by the lock. The proposed tide gate would include the replacement of the sluice gate to control floowaters. As part of this project, the moat will also be "mucked out" to restoring the overall capacity.
