Neary Lagoon Storm Drain Improvement Project
Description
The project is located on Neary Lagoon, a perennial freshwater marsh, tributary to the Pacific Ocean, located one half-mile southwest of downtown Santa Cruz between Laurel and Bay Streets and southeast of California Street in the County of Santa Cruz, State of California. The project is limited to the following: 1-installation of stainless steel gates on two 48-inch storm drain culverts; 2-replacement of the non-functioning hatch in the 14-foot long and 10-foot wide beach outlet valve with a new hatch to enable vault cleaning; 3-installation of a temporary steel plate on the opening of the 66-inch diameter gravity pipeline at the beach outlet and; 4-installation of a small stormwater evacuation pump station near the railroad bridge to facilitate cleaning. All permanent structural elements will be located downstream of the boundaries of the Neary Lagoon Wildlife Refuge. The California Department of Fish and Wildlife is executing a Lake and Streambed Alteration Agreement Number 1600-2013-0383-R3 pursuant to Section 1602 of the Fish and Game Code to the project Applicant, Mark Dettle, City of Santa Cruz Department of Public Works.
