Title
Red Rock Canyon State Park General Plan Revision
Description
Red Rock Canyon State Park provides magnificent views of the scenic Mohave Desert landscape, including the spectacular rock formations for which the Park is named. The Park includes two natural preserves, and provides many recreation opportunities, including camping, touring, sightseeing, geology and nature studies, star gazing, exploration of historic sites, equestrian activities, hiking, and opportunities for reflection and solitude. State Parks is developing a General Plan Review for Red Rock Canyon State Park in accordance with Public Resources Code referencing GP guidelines and 21000 et seq. concerning the CEQA. The purpose of the General Plan Revision is to provide a comprehensive framework for future Park development and use, and to provide management objectives for the Park. While the current GP (adopted in 1982) only covers the original 8,180-acres, the ownership and management. The Revised GP will also provide a clear framework of consistent management goals and guidelines for the entire Park, identify formal boundaries, and make recommendations for the classification of all of the Park's acreage. Preparation of the GP Revision will rely on existing info, including several recent studies at the park and in the surrounding areas.
