Document Description
The project area consists of 28 acres of abandoned pasture lands and a small 3-acre patch of trees. The project is located within the city limits of Yreka CA. directly adjacent to State Responsibility Area, south east of the intersection of Hwy 3 and Westside road in south Yreka, (T44N, R07W, Sec. 3). The project will reduce hazardous fuels by treating grass, brush and small trees in an area immediately adjacent to a residential area within the Yreka city limits. Objectives will be achieved through the use of hand thinning and prescribed fire. Larger brush plants will be cut by hand and piled for burning. Small trees and limbs of larger trees will be piled for burning. No trees over 8 inches in diameter at breast height will be removed unless they pose a threat to project personnel or the public. The area shows evidence of multiple illegal cooking fires in areas of thick vegetation. This project will reduce the threat of wildlife by treating highly flammable fuels and by increasing the visibility of the area thereby discouraging illegal fires.
