Document Description
The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP) proposes to replace a portion of its Bishop-Long Valley sub-transmission line because of the age and condition of the existing poles. The Middle Gorge power poles are 30-40 years old and have exceeded their life expectancy.
The Middle Gorge power line includes about 130 poles along a 4 mile alignment. Approximately 104 of these power poles are on BLM land. These poles would be removed and replaced, The project would occur in phases. The first phase would involve removing 29 existing wood poles along the north end of the alignment and replacing them with 26 new wood poles. Future phases of the project are to be determined.
Pole removal and installation work will be performed using an auger and boom truck. Trucks will access the work site by driving along old access roads and two-lane tracks. The old road will be improved to comply with the inspection requirements of General Order No. 165.
