Document Description
The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans), using State and federal funds, is proposing a roadside safety improvement project on Interstate 5 in Siskiyou County at 14 locations from post mile (PM) R9.93 to R68.10. The purpose of the project is to reduce the severity of runoff- the-road collisions on Interstate 5 in Siskiyou County. The project is needed because these locations do not currently have traversable fill slopes adjacent to the shoulder in the clear recovery zone (CRZ) or there are obstacles within the CRZ. The proposed improvements to the CRZ in the northbound and southbound lanes of Interstate 5 would include providing a minimum 30-foot-wide CRZ with traversable slopes, removing fixed objects, and extending culverts. Vegetation removal would consist of clearing trees within the CRZ and clearing trees and shrubs in fill/cut areas or where culvert work is planned.
