Document Description
The proposed project would involve modifications to existing rooftop antenna and enclosure facilities by Verizon Wireless (Applicant) in the City of San Diego, California. Work to specifically complete the proposed project would include installation of the following improvements at the equipment area at the mezzanine level: partition walls surrounding existing equipment area; battery rack; two (2) split system heating ventilation and cooling units; two fiberglass (FRP) enclosures surrounding three (3) antenna sectors; two antennas; and six (6) remote radio units (RRU). The project would also include removal of ten (10) RRU's and the relocation of four antennas and an 850 CDMA antenna to the new FRP enclosures. The proposed improvements would not result in an increase in height of the telecommunications equipment and enclosure facilities. Construction of the proposed project is anticipated to occur in the December 2019 and would take approximately two months to complete with ongoing installations, modifications, maintenance, and removal as needed. Reasons for Exemption
The proposed project is determined to be Categorically Exempt pursuant to California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) Guidelines Section 15301 (Existing Facilities) and Section 15302 (Replacement of Reconstruction) and Section 3.a. and 3.b. of the District's Guidelines for Compliance with CEQA because it consists of improvements to FRP enclosures, antenna, and RRUs to improve telecommunications service, and would involve no expansion of use beyond that previously existing, would consist of the replacement of existing structures, would be located on the same site as the structures replaced, and would have substantially the same purpose and capacity.
