Document Description
CDFW has executed Lake and Streambed Alteration Agreement No. 1600-2018-0054-R3, pursuant to section 1602 of the Fish and Game Code to the Caltrans. The project is limited to enhancement and expanse of suitable habitat for the riparian brush rabbit (RBR) to increase the connectivity within the preserve and to create high water Refugia areas during periods of flooding. The enhancement project would cover approx 2.6 acres. Appropriate foliage cover for RBR will be planted along high elevation areas and along other open areas of the preserve. Plant species will be comprised of coyote bush, wild rose, California blackberry, mulefat, gumplant, mugwort white root sedge, creeping wild rye, and purple needlegrass. The optimal planting period occurs from late fall to early winter when soils become saturated from rainfall. The planting sites are easily accessible from the elevated road berm and planting sites appear to be at least 60 ft away from the edge of the high water mark. Hand augurs, irrigation equipment and crew cab trucks shall be employed to dig planting holes 12-18 in deep. Native riparian vegetation may be removed or trimmed during the proposed project activities following the appropriate surveys identified in this agreement and no equipment or materials will enter the waterway or be stockpiled within the floodplain at any time during the proposed activities. All equipment and materials will be confined to the high berm area and adjacent levee at all times.
