Document Description
CHP is proposing to replace a fallen 60-ft, steel communication tower with a new 80-ft, steel lattice tower, and a 28-ft mast and lightening arrestor at the top within the State's Public Safety Microwave Network at Keller Peak. The project will also remove an approx 5-ft by 5-ft concrete pad and replace it with an approx 30-ft by 30-ft concrete pad. In addition, the proposed project includes four potential staging areas located along Keller Peak Rd. Work crews will access the site using existing access roads and no vehicles will travel off-road. Activities will be confined to existing staging areas and the project tower site. Keller Peak includes multiple cell towers in close proximity to the proposed CHP communication tower, therefore the majority of the project site and area is disturbed. The Keller Peak communication tower telecommunication site is an essential component of the California PSMN that transmits 911 calls and emergency instructions during major public safety incidents and natural disasters. The purpose of the project is to maintain CHP's essential emergency communication linkage at the Keller Peak communication facility to support current microwave technology. Potential equipment to be used for the tower replacement will include: Backhoe, Dump truck, Personal pick-up trucks, Work trucks/Light duty, Cement truck, Crane, Water truck, Hand tools.
