Notice of Exemption

Categorical Exemption
Type, Section or Code
class 1
Reasons for Exemption
It has been determined that the project is categorically exempt under 15301, class 1: existing facilities. Because seismic repairs to existing facilities are essential to occupant safety, and b/c the related ADA improvements will cause negligible or no expansion of an existing use, the project is exempt. Importantly, the project is not foreclosed by an enumerated exception on the use of a categorical exemption. Specifically, the project will not be located in a particularly sensitive environment; will not have a significant cumulative impact; will not have a significant effect on the environment due to unusual circumstances, will not result in damage to scenic resources, will not be located on a site included on any list compiled pursuant to state law; and, will not cause a substantial adverse change in the significance of a historical resource. For these reasons, it is determined that the seismic upgrades to Romberg Tiburon Campus Buildings 49 and 50 are exempt from CEQA and no further environmental review is necessary.
