Document Description
The proposed project is a submerged line-based pilot seaweed farm system atGrape Street Pier No. 1. The project would require a Tideland Use and Occupancy Permit (TUOP) to SUnken Seaweed, LLC for their use of approximately 4,422 square feet of water area at the northwestern end of Grape Street Pier No. 1 adjacent to North Harbor Drive. The purpose of the project is to demonstrate the feasibility of seaweed aquaculture in San Diego Bay through a pilot project by cultivating, outplanting, growing, and harvesting several species of native marine macrolague as a culinary product. All onshore seaweed-processing would occur at an uolands locationat marine lab and would not require any land-based facilities on tidelands. A "Blue Economy Agreement" by and between the District and SunkenSeaweed, LLC is also proposed and other similar agreements may also be required.
