CDFW is issuing a permit to Paul Ruiz-Lopez pursuant to Fish and Game Code to Section 2081(a) for a research project involving the endangered beach layia (Layia carnosa). The project includes (1) an assessment of beach layia breeding system biology via pollination treatments to wild plants and seed viability testing as described further below, (2) an investigation of beach layia floral development and pollination mechanism through collection and dissection of inflorescences at different developmental stages, (3) an assessment of beach layia pollinators via visitation surveys and insect netting, and (4) development of a beach layia seed germination protocol.
