Document Description
NAVFAC SW expanded and enhanced a soil vapor extraction pilot test as part of a time-critical removal action for building 379 at Operable Units 19 and 20, NASNI. The TCRA is being performed to mitigate risk associated with VI into indoor air related to the presence of light non-aqueous phase liquid and groundwater impacted with volatile organic compounds including trichloroethene. OU 19 is an area defined by the presence of the LNAPL body and OU 20 is the VOC groundwater plume underlying and down gradient of OU 19. OUs 19 and 20 are commonly referred to as OU 19/20. The Navy currently considers this newly expanded treatment system as part of their remedial efforts for this OU, and requirements for an RI/FS were circumvented in order to mitigate the imminent and substantial endangerment of building occupants.
