Line 85 at Mile Post 55.98 Main Line Valve Leak Repair (Incidental Take Permit No. 2081-2017-043-04)

The California Department of Fish and Wildlife has issued Incidental Take Permit No. 2081-2017-041-04, pursuant to Section 2081 subdivision (b) of the Fish and Game Code (see Cal. Code Regs., tit. 14, S 783.2) to Southern California Gas Company to incidentally take San Joaquin antelope squirrel which is listed as threatened, and giant kangaroo rat which is listed as endangered under the California Endangered Species Act (CESA; Fish & G Code 2050 et seq.; see Cal. Code Regs., tit. 14, s 670.5, subd. (b)(6)B) and (a)(6)(C), respectively). Due to an unexpected and potentially hazardous leak, Project activities include replacing the main line valve assembly on Line 85, the installing one stopple, replacing the chain link fence, and asphalt paving within the fencing. The new assembly will be buried with valve operator extensions above ground alongside the blowdown stack. Approximately 1,500 square feet (0.03 acre) will be disturbed for the main line valve assembly installation and approximately 19,305 square feet (0.44 acre) will be disturbed for the construction staging areas. Replacement of the valve assembly will require excavating a 3,200 square foot area a maximum of 15 feet deep. Installation of the stopple will require excavating an 800 square foot area located 70-feet southeast of the valve. The depth of the excavation will be a maximum of 15 feet deep. Excavation will be backfilled to 90% compaction utilizing zero slack slurry or native fill with no rocks or debris.
