Sweetwater Dam and South Dike Improvement Project

CDFW is intending to execute a Lake or Streambed Alteration Agreement pursuant to section 1602 of the Fish and Game Code (#1600-2018-0142-R5) to the project applicant, Sweetwater Authority. Project activities include raising the existing parapet walls on the north and south ends of the Sweetwater Dam, repairing the existing South Spillway, raising the existing South Dike, and crossing two drainages with the South Abutment Access Road. Improvements to the parapet walls will not impact the reservoir or stream, as the work will as occur on the existing dam structure. Construction on the South Spillway will involve 0.17 acre of work on the existing concrete-lined structure to repair substantial concrete deterioration including primary and secondary cracking, general spalling, and deterioration of the foundation support beams. The footprint of the structure will not be changed. Permanent impacts (0.06 acre) will result from the installation of type-3 drain gravel with 4" aggregate base in two small ephemeral drainages for the South Abutment Access road, and from the footprint associated with raising the South Dike, which overlaps with a small portion of the sediment/drainage basin located at its base. Shoreline areas delineated as jurisdictional Open Water of the reservoir but above the actual water level at the time of work will be temporarily impacted by work on the South Dike and as equipment and materials staging for dam improvements.
