Document Description
Conduct forest thinning and hazard fuel reduction on 400 acres within the South Grove Preserve at Calaveras Big Trees State park to reduce the threat of catastrophic wildfire and improve native forest composition and structure to historic conditions.
Hand crews will use chainsaws to cut and pile dead forest debris and understory conifer trees (primarily white fire and incense cedar) into piles, followed by pile burning and larger prescribed fire.
