Document Description
The purpose of the proposed project is to provide enhanced flow of passenger trains and ability to meet train schedules along the Amtrak's San Joaquin Corridor. The extension of the Mariposa East Lead (approximately 1.5 miles) will improve on-time performance and reduce train delays, as well as improve air quality by reducing locomotive idling time. The proposed project will improve service and accommodate anticipated future growth in intercity passenger rail travel along the San Joaquin Corridor.

The State CEQA Guidelines provide a series of Statutory Exemptions for actions that have been deemed by the State Legislature to be totally exempt from compliance with the CEQA. The proposed new Mariposa East Lead track and supporting infrastructure will enhance passenger train operations along Amtrak's San Joaquin Corridor. This new track has been determined to qualify for a Statutory Exemption under Paragraph 21080(b) (11) and the State CEQA Guidelines, Section 15275. Therefore this action qualified with the requirements for a Statutory Exemption, under paragraph 21080(b) (11) of the CEQA statute and Section 15275 of the State CEQA Guidelines
