CDFW has executed Lake and Streambed Alteration Agreement number 1600-2018-0113-R1, pursuant to Section 1602 of the Fish and Game Code to the Project Applicant, The City of Eureka as represented by Mr. Miles Slattery. The project consists of two encroachments to complete the Elk River Enhancement Project, consisting of Area 1: Removal of two existing tidegates. Filling inboard ditches to focus the tidal prism in the main channels and reduce sedimentation of these channels. Excavation (increase width and depth) of 3,385 feet of existing channels to maximize eelgrass habitat. Excavation of 2,395 feet of new tidal channels. Excavation of freshwater and saltwater marsh depressions. Area 2: Breaching of the dike on Elk River. Culvert removal. Excavation of a new tributary channel network. Creation of salt marsh habitat.
