Document Description
This project is an effort to enhance stream flows in Pescadero Creek. As part of the project, irrigation infrastructure will be upgraded to increase water use efficiency and reduce the rate of diversion from Pescadero Creek from approximately 150-425 gallons per minute (gpm) to 75-100 gpm during the summer. The Irrigation system currently draws from 2 points of diversion on Pescadero Creek and two existing agricultural wells. The project will replace one diversion pump with a high efficiency variable speed electric pump, improve irrigation distribution infrastructure, construct a 2 acre foot off-stream pond, and eliminate the need for one of the two points of diversion.

Categorical Exemption
Type, Section or Code
33 and 4 [CEQA State Guidelines, Sections 15333 and 15304]
Reasons for Exemption
The project is specifically proposed to enhance instream flow and provide for higher functioning aquatic and riparian habitat for species that may spawn, nest, forage, or transit the project vicinity, including steelhead trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) and coho salmon (Oncorhynchus kisutch), by reducing summer water diversions from Pescadero Creek. The following provides a brief description of the project, and an explanation for why the project qualifies for exemption from CEQA environmental review under Class 33 and 4 (15333 and 15304, respectively).
