Document Description
The proposed project is based on a Conservation Plan designed to address the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service Resource Concerns of water quality, plants and livestock production limitation. This is achieved by increasing plant productivity and health, by holding sheep in the barn seasonally as needed to optimize grazing pressure, and by routing freshwater away from areas with manure and urine. Animals held in confinement need basic conditions to maintain their comfort such as dryness, space, limb and joint protection, air circulation, and food and water. The need for the project was identified in a Comprehensive Nutrient Management Plan prepared by Conestoga-Rivers and Associates in April 2015.
