Document Description
The existing configuration of Storke Road along the proposed Project alignment includes one northbound vehicle lane, bike lane, and a landscaped parkway and sidewalk along its eastern side. Along its western side there is a landscaped center median and two vehicle southbound lanes, including a vehicle transition lane merge between Phelps Road and Whittier Drive, a bike lane and sidewalk. The remainder of the alignment along its west side includes one southbound vehicle lane, a bike lane and a sidewalk.
The Proposed project would include two vehicle travel lanes in each direction, as well as sidewalks and bike lanes in both directions. The road's north-and southbound lanes would be 11 feet wide. On the east (northbound) side, the existing planted median would be removed and the additional vehicle lane would be constructed. On the west (southbound) side a sidewalk and bike lane would be constructed as well as a sloped shoulder. The bike lane and sidewalk would each be eight feet wide. On the east side, the sidewalk and bike lane would be five feet wide each.
A left-hand turning lane onto Willowgrove Drive from the southbound lanes would be preserved, as would the left-hand turning lanes and onto Whittier Drive and Phelps Road from the northbound lanes. Intermittent, tapered medians would additionally be placed along the alignment. The total width of improvements equals 82.5 feet, plus a 15-foot maintenance easement along a portion of its west side for slope (97.5 feet in total).
Upon completion, this segment of Storke Road would have a capacity flow of 1,900 vehicles per hour. It would be inspected, maintained and repaired, as needed, by the City's Public Works Department.
