Document Description
The project includes floodplain restoration activities along Forsythe Creek. This creek is a major tributary to the Russian River, and provides important habitat for California Coastal Chinook salmon and the Central California Coast steelhead. Portions of the creek have experienced severe erosion and floodplain impacts. The purpose and goals of the project are to: restore hydrologic functions of the creek floodplain; enhance the ecologic function of the Forsythe Creek floodplain and channel with a focus on salmonid habitat; reduce active erosion processes affecting the southern bank of the creek; enhance riparian canopy, and maintain existing flood protection and potentially improve floodplain water storage. The main components of the project include floodplain restoration, streambank stabilization, instream habitat features, and revegetation.
