Document Description
The proposed project involves upgrading and replacing the fender system of General Dynamics-NASSCO (Tenant) at Berths V and V1 in San Diego, California. The Tenant has proposed a like-for-like pile replacement and subsequent fender replacements along the support pier at Berths V and VI. Currently, the facility is comprised of onshore construction equipment and support buildings, piers, shipbuilding ways, and a dry dock along the shoreline of the facility. Eight separate berths are available for vessels to moor to piers. Berths V and VI share a support pier (approximately 900-feet long by 70-feet-wide) where large vessels are moored for extended periods of time prior to, during, and following new construction or repair, often lasting several months. The steel and concrete piers are inspected regularly, and presently the fender systems at Berths V and VI are aged and at the end of their serviceable life expectancy.
