Document Description
CDFW has executed Lake and Streambed Alteration Agreement no. 1600-2017-0070-R5, pursuant to section 1602 of the Fish and Game Code to the project Applicant, Santa Maria Valley Water Conservation District. The project, as proposed, involves accessing the river with agricultural equipment using discs or tines to rip into and disturb the clay cap layer within the low flow channel of the river. Disturbance will occur to a depth between 6 to 18 inches beneath the surface. This will allow water to percolate down to the aquifer below as it has done in the past. In areas where vegetation exists in the path of project activities, mature native trees and later-successional vegetation will be avoided but early successional vegetation may be disturbed. All area with above-ground water present will be avoided. Of the 1,356 acres occurring across the 14.6 mile segment of the river, only the low flow channel consisting of 135.3 acres will be impacted through project activities.
