Document Description
The project entails replacing the existing 64-foot by 108-foot wide three-span concrete slab bridge with a cast-in-place, post-tensioned single-span concrete slab bridge. The new bridge will have the same soffit as the existing bridge. Forty piles will be removed by cutting them off approximately three feet below the ground surface of the channel using a chainsaw or jackhammer. Fifty 14-inch concrete piles, 25 underneath each bridge abutment, will be installed with an impact pile driver. No new piles will be installed in the channel bed. A concrete diaphragm abutment will be placed on the new piles within the existing abutment location. The channel will be diverted between 50 feet upstream and downstream of the bridge with coffer dams and a diversion pipe and pump. Equipment and staging areas will be on an existing Caltrans storage area under the exit and entrance ramps for Highway 101 and interstate 380. Issuance of a streambed alteration agreement number 1600-2015-0355-R3 is pursuant to Fish and Game Code Section 1602.
