Document Description
The proposed project will take place along North Harbor Drive over the course of four days from Sept. 4, 2015 through Sept. 7, 2015. The District will provide sponsorship in the form of District funding and services for the event, the largest tall ship festival on the west coast. The event will feature public tours of tall ships, cruises around the San Diego Bay, and live entertainment. The event will transform the North Embarcadero into a nautical theme park for four days. The event will kick off with a tall ship parade on Friday, Sept 4, 2015; tall ships will be welcomed with several rounds of cannon fire as they sail into San Diego Bay. Daily activities during the event will include the following: enjoying the visiting ships and crew, kids petting zoo, kids craft activities, face painting, tall ship cannon battles, a 30-minute Festival of Sail bay cruise, beer garden, on-stage entertainment, Naval reenactors, photo opportunities with Captain Sunny and Pirates, hundreds of arts and craft vendors, and a multitude of food options. The event has an expected attendance of approx. 250,000 people. The event will require use of the metered parkign on the west side of Harbor Drive between Grape and Ash Street from Sept. 4, 2015 to Sept. 7, 2015. Since the parking spaces will be reserved for a limited time period, the project will not result in significant impacts related to public parking.
