Document Description
The purpose of this project is to improve the pavement condition and safety on Hammonton-Smartsville Road. The need of the project is driven by pavement failures, subsurface failures, surface alligator cracking and unsafe horizontal and vertical curves. The pavement condition within the project corridor is rated as "poor" and contains numerous failed sections that have been patched. Due to insufficient roadway structural sections, weight restrictions (22 tons) have been placed on the roadway from Doolittle Gate to Chuck Yeager Road. In addition, the roadway contains sharp, horizontal curves where motorists have run off the road and has limited sight distance along both vertical and horizontal curves. The curves, in combination with a lack of paved shoulders and steep side slopes along portions of the corridor, create a safety concern.
