Document Description
Acquire approximately 3,434 acre conservation easement over the Butte Creek Ranch, private forestland, wet meadows and riparian habitats. Project will conserve 2,660 acres of productive mixed-conifer forests and 670 acres of wet meadow habitat. Sitting on the slope of Mt. Shasta, the property drains both into the McCloud River Watershed (one of the most pristine rivers in California and a major tributary to the Sacramento River), as well as into the Klamath River Basin, an important source of water for numerous aquatic and terrestrial special status species. The conservation easement will protect the property in perpetuity, preventing the breakup of the property or development of the ranch and secure a strategically important wildlife corridor connecting the Shasta-Trinity and the Klamath National Forests.
