Document Description
The Nature Conservancy proposes to treat specific areas of Santa Cruz Island which have identified Argentine Ant infestations. Pilot test programs conducted with a selected pesticide have proven effective in eradicating Argentine Ant populations; the methods proven in the pilot testing will be applied to all identified infestation areas. Pesticide would primarily be applied via helicopter, at a frequency of every one to four weeks between May and October, in 2015 and 2016. Valley Anchorage, the largest infestation site and measuring between 800 and 1200 acres, is the primarily focus of the proposal. Monitoring and possible re-treatment of approximately 200 acres included in the pilot testing program are also included in the proposal. Best management practices and avoidance will be used to prevent impacts to native and endemic species and habitat.
