Document Description
The Gatehouse was built in 1931 by Will Rogers as an employee residence. The mortar of the original stone fireplace has decayed to the point where it is unsafe to use, and falling apart. Work would involve rehabilitation of the existing fireplace structure to arrest the decay and ensure the safety of the historic building if someone were to use the fireplace. Work would entail stabilizing existing stones, replacement of fallen stones with new mortar, and installation of a sleeve or liner inside the flue to permit fires or installation of wood burning stove insert to fireplace. The exterior appearance of the fireplace would be rehabilitated to its replicate original state. Repairs will consist of preserving and/or replacing historic materials in kind. Project will comply with the Secretary of the Interior's Standard and Guidelines for the Rehabilitation of a historic structure associated with historic landscape district.
