Document Description
Caltrans, in cooperation with the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority, proposes to convert the existing high-occupancy vehicle lanes to high occupancy toll or express lanes, and widen the freeway to add a second express lane for the majority of the corridor. Use of the HOV Lanes is currently restricted to vehicles with two or more occupants, motorcycles, and certain alternative fuel vehicles. The overall project limits are from approximately Oregon Expressway/Embarcadero Road interchange in Palo Alto to the Cochrane Road interchange in Morgan Hill. Express lane signs and lighting would be added, and auxiliary lanes in four segments. The express lanes would allow HOVs to continue to use the lanes without paying a toll, and eligible single occupancy vehicles to pay a toll to use the lanes.
