Document Description
The Rancho CA Water District proposes to construct a hydroelectric power generation facility at the existing WR-34 Turnout Facility. The WR-34 Turnout Facility discharges raw (untreated) water into the Santa Margarita River, as provided in the District's Cooperative Resources Management Agreement with the US Government. The hydroelectric power generation facility would capture the approximately 400 feet of excess pressure head generated at the WR-34 Turnout Facility and would convert the excess pressure head into hydroelectric energy, enabling the recovery and conversion of presently lost energy into an available, renewable resource. The proposed hydroelectric facility could generate up to approximately 1,300 annual megawatt hours (MWh) on average and would tie into the Southern CA Edison electrical distribution system.
