Document Description
Project is limited to electrifying the Caltrain Corridor from 4th and King Streets in San Francisco to about 2 miles south of Tamien Station in San Jose, in order to allow conversion of the Caltrain commuter fleet from diesel trains to Electrical Multiple Units. The project includes installation of 130 to 140 single track miles of overhead contact system (OCS) for the distribution of electrical power to the electric rolling stock. Additional project features required for right-of-way electrification include overbridge protection structures, at grade crossing warning devices and replacement of the current rolling stock. CDFW is executing a Lake and Streambed Alteration Agreement No. 1600-2015-0254-R3 pursuant to Section 1602 of the Fish and Game Code to the project Applicant for project activities relating to the electrical safety zone including pruning and removal of riparian vegetation along the drainages and creeks crossing or paralleling the tracks. Trees will be removed using chainsaws and loppers. If a tree requiring pruning or removal occurs within a channel, Permittee will utilize bucket trucks to perform the work from outside the channel. Along wetlands, exclusion fencing will be installed to prohibit workers and equipment from entering the habitat and tree work will be conducted from outside the wetland boundary. An estimated total of 0.366 acre and 1,031 linear feet of riparian vegetation will be impacted by the proposed project.
