Document Description
The proposed project is a new maximum security Type II facility with 250 cell double occupancy units (500 beds) and 14 special use beds for total of 514 beds. In addition to the main detention facility, the proposed project will also include support service components such as administrative offices, intake, infirmary, kitchen, laundry, storage, and two off-street parking lots on ~15.0 acres of the 36.27 acre site. The proposed project would employ up to 172 staff working around the clock over several different shifts with the highest number of staff working between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Approximately 17 to 25 visitors are anticipated per day. The site is currently under agricultural production with a portion located within an incorporated area of the City of Porterville (36.27 gross acres) another portion within an unincorporated area of the County of Tulare (39.0 gross acres). This project is proposed in order to anticipate and meet the demand of increases in projected inmate housing needs.
