Heaps Peak Slope Repair

The County Solid Waste Management Division proposes to repair an area of approximately 4 acres on the east side of the Heaps Peak Transfer Station property. This area was formerly used for pine needle and other debris disposal, but has failed and created a steep scarp and local erosion. The County intends to regrade this area by removing a wedge of refuse from areas where refuse transitions from slope gradient of about 3:1 to 1.5:1, and replacing excavated refuse to form an overall 2:1 gradient down from the transfer station, covering the refuse slope with 1-2 feet of imported soil cover, constructing six to eight foot benches, and installing additional drainage improvements on fill and native slopes. Soil cover may be obtained locally or may need to be imported from more remote locations, involving approximately 1,500 truck trips (15,000 cubic yards of soil).
