Document Description
The project entails the widening and restoration of Barron Creek in the Town of Los Altos Hills, in the County of Santa Clara, to increase the stability and biological function of the creek channel and to reduce flooding. To restore the channel to its historic condition, 55 trees will be removed and the overall channel geometry will be widened. The existing rock riprap in the channel will be removed except for transition areas at the upstream and downstream culverts. The channel bank will be removed except for transition areas at the upstream and downstream culverts. The channel bank will be benched near the bottom to form a 4-foot wide low flow channel. A 12-foot wide benched floodplain area will be planted with the native vegetation capable of withstanding flood flows and will provide some roughness to the stream channel to prevent bank erosion. Rock aprons for energy dissipation will be constructed at the three existing subdrain outfalls. Revegetation will occur after the rock riprap is removed and will consist of a diverse array of native canopy and understory riparian plants to enhance wildlife habitat along the creek corridor and help prevent erosion. A temporary pedestrian footbridge will be removed and two new six feet wide footbridges will free-span the restored channel. CDFW is executing a Lake and Streambed Alteration Agreement No. 1600-2016-0052-R3, pursuant to Section 1602 Fish and Game Code to the Project Permittee, Red Orchid, LLC.
