Document Description
The project will extract untreated groundwater from the El Monte Operable Unit from several new well locations and then convey the raw water in pipelines within city rights of way to the treatment facility for treatment. The treatment will remove contaminants from the groundwater. The project consists of two separate remediation systems. Treated groundwater extracted from the Eastern Shallow Zone will be re-injected back into the Eastern Shallow Zone aquifer. Treated groundwater extracted from the Southern Deep Zone will be used as part of the El Monte municipal water supply. The groundwater treatment facilities for the Eastern Shallow and Southern Deep Zones will be located next to one another but will be physically separate. The specific location of the groundwater treatment systems will be between the southern property of line of 4131 Arden Drive and the Union Pacific Railroad right-of-way, fronting Arden Drive. The project meets the Environmental Protection Agency's objective of containment/capture of contaminants.
