NOTE: Functional equivalent of EIR. The primary objective sought by the proposed action is to maintain the State's black bear population in a healthy and viable condition for the enjoyment and use of all Californians and to continue providing limited public sport hunting opportunities. The proposed action being considered by the Fish and Game Commission is to modify Title 14, California Code of Regulations (CCR), Sections 365, 366 and 265, respectively, to modify current hun boundaries and season dates; modify the in-season closure mechanism (currently when 1,700 bears are reported harvested); modify regulations regarding the use of dogs for hunting mammal species, including bears.
