Caltrans proposes a project to improve safety and roadway reliability on a segment of SR 199 in Del Norte County from postmile R18.3 to R18.6. approximately 5 miles north of the community of Gasquet. A cable mesh drapery system is proposed to be installed on an existing cut slope to reduce the amount of rock debris that reached the travel lanes. This segment of SR 199 is within the Six Rivers National Forest and the Smith River National Recreation Area. Under 19 USC 303(d), Caltrans has preliminarily determined that the proposed project would result in a de minimis use of the recreation area for the purposes of section 4(f).
