Document Description
The proposed project would remove sediment and redesign the channel to facilitate ongoing maintenance in portions of subreach 2 and subreach 3 of Cherokee Canal (from the southern Richvale Irrigation District Canal siphon to the confluence with Cottonwood Creek). This reach of the canal is ~4 miles long and, on average, 400 ft wide, or 190 total acres. Cross sectional and 3 of the canal. DWR would remove up to ~750,000 cubic yards of sediment from these reaches to restore channel capacity to 25 yr level flood protectection of 11,500 cubic ft per second. Sediment would be transported to several spoil site locations. Seven potential sites for disposing the spoils have been identified near the project. DWR may use some of all of these sites to dispose of the sediment. The proposed project would also include revegetation of the channel with native vegetation to replace species.
