Document Description
Perform geotechnical study of the concrete abutments and underlying soils of the Lodge Bridge within Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park to engineer and install new bridge foundations and bridge. Trim vegetation and temporarily place plywood sheets on the bare around to protect tree roots from the vehicle damage at project site and along access routes. Drill an approximately 4" diameter hole up to 75' in depth through the pavement and underlying soils at the Northeast and Southwest abutments to make a soils bore log. Excavate an approximately 5' long by 2' wide by 5' deep area around each of the concrete bridge footings to document their depth and horizontally core drill into the concrete abutments to evaluate their existing condition. Stage and store vehicles and equipment on paved road near existing abutments. Collect and dispose of drill waste and debris off site. Bridge installation will be evaluated in a separate environmental document.
