Document Description
The City of Monterey proposes to construct a raised walkway through a riparian area with a seasonal creek commonly known as Hartnell Gulch. The raised walkway is six feet wide (eight feet wide at the posts), 160 feet long and will begin at Hartnell Street, pass along the southern side of Hartnell Gulch and will terminate at the parking lot for Uptown Monterey, a commercial shopping center at 570 Munras Avenue. The walkway will be elevated approximately three to nine feet above the underlying grade and will descend incrementally towards the parking lot. The project site is presently private property and extends over parcels 001-581-011 and 001-581-012, known as 509 Hartnell Street and 573 Polk Street, respectively. The City proposes to acquire a public easement across these properties to accommodate the walkway. The project will require the removal of four trees and various native and invasive plants. In addition, one parking space will be eliminated from within the 570 Munras Avenue parking lot. The project will use the public right-of-way at Hartnell Street and the parking lot at 570 Munras Avenue for construction staging and access.
