Document Description
The clean up project that was subject to approval by the Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC) is part of a larger redevelopment project, the Augustine Bowers Office Park, that was previously approved by the City of Santa Clara as the CEQA lead agency. This cleanup project consists of approval of a Final Response Plan by DTSC to protect human health and the envrionment by remediating the soil contaminated with arsenic, lead, dieldrin, total petroleum hydrocarbons as diesel (TPHd), and total petroleum hydrocarbons as motor oil (TPHmo) on the Santa Clara Square Retail (Site) prior to its redevelopment. Cleanup activities would include excavation of an estimated 27,000 cubic yards of soil from the area where arsenic, lead, dieldrin are present in soil at concentrations above the Site cleanup goals to depths up to 3.5 feet below the base rock that underlies existing pavement, and consolidation of the excavated contaminated soil on-Site, beneath a "cap" (i.e. paved parking lots, buildings and landscaped areas). The response action activities will likely occur in two phases.
