Document Description
The Metropolitan Transportation Plan is required by state and federal metropolitan planning regulations to prepare a long-range regional transportation plan (RTP) every four years. The RTP covers a 25-year planning horizon, and serves as a blueprint that guides the development of transportation policies and investments for the nine-county San Francisco Bay Area Region. Specific investments such as highway expansion, roadway maintenance, transit expansion, local roadway improvements, bicycle and pedestrian facilities, highway system management, etc. are identified in the RTP, and such improvements must be funded by federal, state, regional, or local financial revenues assumed to be reasonably available to the region over the next 25 years.
