Dam Instrumentation Project-- MND for Phase IB and II

This phase of the Dam Instrumentation Project (DIP) deals with a major capital effort to install new geotechnical instrumentation while completing a field geotechnical exploration drilling program. The DIP will also provide corresponding automated data acquisition systems for the subject dams. An ancillary project will involve the collection of subsurface data towards a better understanding of the seismic stability at these same dams. The DIP entails drilling a number of borings at each dam to install instuments that will enable monitoring of internal water pressure, ground shaking, and potential deformation. The borings will also allow the collection of insitu data about embankment and foundation materials and lithology, including the collectin of undisturbed samples for use in laboratory testing that will provide information on soil classification and engineering properties for analyses to assess the overall safety of the dam.
