Document Description
The CA Dept. of Fish and Wildlife is executing a Lake or Streambed Alteration Agreement, pursuant to Section 1602 of the Fish and Game Code, to the project applicant, California American Water. The approved Project will result in the removal of the San Clemente Dam and the Old Carmel River Dam on the Carmel River in Monterey County. The Carmel River upstream of the existing San Clemente Dam will be rerouted through a new created channel. The Upper Carmel River, San Clemente Creek, and the San Clemente Reservoir will be excavated to remove accumulated sediments, which will be placed, along with material from the dam structure, in the former Carmel River channel and stabilized so that the sediments are not carried downstream. Habitat restoration will follow channel excavation and dam removal activities. Access road improvements and other Project area access will require the construction of bridges and culvert crossings over Tularcitos Creek, the Carmel River, and San Clemente Creek. The CDFW is issuing the Lake or Streambed Alteration Agreement referenced above as a Responsible Agency under the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA).
