Present Land Use
Mare Island is a former naval shipyard. Although now largely vacant, a variety of active land uses exist on the island including industrial, office and educational activities. The project area is defined as the area encompassing approximately 440 acres at the western and southwestern edges of Mare Island, including 281 acres of ponds and 275 acres of jurisdictional wetlands. The project area includes Dredge Ponds 2S, 2M, 2N, 4S, 4M, and 4N, located west of Cedar Avenue/Azuar Drive; Pond 7, situated at the relatively flat southern edge of Mare Island; Piers 34 and 35, located at the relatively flat southeastern section of Mare Island; and pipeline alignments and roads connecting the piers to the ponds. The wetlands and dredge areas are zoned RC, Resource Conservation, and have a General Plan land use designation of "Open Space - Wetlands."
Document Description
WESTON Solutions, Inc. and the City of Vallejo propose to use seven existing disposal ponds on Mare Island for the disposal of material dredged from projects throughout the Bay Area. The ponds would be operated as a commercial facility available for the disposal of dredged material by various public and private projects.
