Document Description
Los Angeles Valley College has developed a Facilities Master Plan that proposes construction of new facilities, renovation of and additions to existing facilities, demolition of several existing buildings, and the development of new surface parking, landscaping, and open space. The proposed Facilities Master Plan would include new construction, renovation and modernization of existing facilities, and demolition of a number of existing buildings on the campus. With the proposed improvements, there would be a net increase in building floor space on the campus of approximately 256,000 gross square feet (gsf). Currently, campus buildings contain approximately 600,000 gsf of space. The construction of projects proposed under the Master Plan is expected to commence in 2003 and continue through approximately the year 2008. It is anticipated that the new and renovated facilities would accommodate and meet the educational needs of a future student population of approximately 23,000 students. In the Fall 2001 semester, there were 18,487 students enrolled at Valley College. Approximately 76 percent of the students were part-time students and 24 percent were full-time students. Funding for a portion of the projects identified in the Facilities Master Plan would be provided through the $1,245 billion Proposition A bond measure passed in the Spring of 2001 by the voters of Los Angeles County. The total bond distribution to Valley College under Proposition A is approximately $165 million.
