Document Description
In light of the statewide dry conditions in California, the Department of Water Resources desires to provide temporary storage for individual water contractors of State Water Project 2002 allocated Table A water in San Luis Reservoir during 2003 as long as storage space is not needed for other SWP purposes. The long-term State Water Project contractors would be allowed to take delivery of up to 5% of their approved 2002 SWP allocated Table A water in 2003. The amount of water is expected to be up to 200,000 acre-ft. The contactors would be required to take delivery of this water no later than December 31, 2003. If this program is not implemented, the contractors may take full delivery of their 2002 allocated Table A water during 2002. Allocated water not taken by the end of the year becomes part of the 2003 overall SWP water supply. Allowing delivery of this water during 2003 will provide greater operational flexibility in the management of the contractors' limited water supplies. The 2002 Summer Allocation Carryover Program is separated from and in addition to other carryover programs afforded by the long term water supply contracts, including the 2003 Turnback Pool Program. Delivery of carryover water under the 2002 Summer Allocation Carryover Program provided they do not sell 2002 allocated Table A water in the 2003 Turnback Pool Program.
