Document Description
A water quality problem arises from CIC's temporary use imported State Water Project (SWP) water. Due to the high organic carbon levels of the SWP water, the potential for disinfection byproduct fromation increases with sufficient contact time with free chlorine. Due to this, CIC may have difficulty meeting the recently lowered MCLs for total trihalomethanes (TTHMs) and haloacetic acids (HAA5). CIC installed equipment to add ammonia solution to the water, along with chlorine, to form a chloramine residual to mitigate excess TTHM and HAA5 formation associated with the use of SWP water.
